There’s still time to organize a team for — or donate to — the Pacific NW Karting Challenge on October 8th to benefit Seattle Children’s Hospital!
If you are a kart enthusiast — or want to experience some speed and excitement while making a difference — you’re invited to participate in the 11th Annual Pacific Northwest Karting Challenge, a day of racing fun that raises money for Seattle Children’s Hospital. All you need to do is get together a team of four drivers and organize sponsored donations from your family, friends, businesses and colleagues in support of your team. Each team is responsible for bringing a minimum of $800 in donations.
The two-hour race takes place on Friday, October 8th at PGP, Seattle’s premier karting track, which is conveniently located adjacent to Pacific Raceways. The race starts at 3pm. Karts and helmets are supplied for drivers.
All Drivers Wanted – Enthusiasm Necessary
Who can drive? Anyone who is 15 or older. You don’t have to have any karting under your belt to participate, though practice sessions are advised (more on that below). The Challenge admits teams of different types: Pro/Am teams (for amateur and non-karters and up to one Pro driver), and Pro teams (up to four drivers who have extensive experience). One requirement – you do need to be five feet tall!
How to do it?
- Get together four drivers, 15 or older.
- Read the rules.
- Complete and return this registration form.
- Line up donations from family, friends, and colleagues. Everyone can easily donate to the Karting Challenge here. You can build your own team page on mightycause.com to make it even easier to get donations.
- Get your drivers some practice if needed. PGP offers Arrive and Drive karting sessions five days a week. Practice sessions will also be held on race day from 9am – 2pm.
- Show up for the race and have a blast.
Karting for a Kause
Over the last 10 years the Karting Challenge has raised $677,000 for Seattle Children’s Hospital. The money goes to help families that can’t afford treatment, and also to Seattle Children’s Heart Center. The event is now under the auspices of the Team Seattle Guild, which has raised millions for Seattle Children’s through motorsports events.
Overcoming Challenges – Your Help Needed!
Last year the Challenge was canceled due to Covid. This year applications and donations are slower getting up to speed again, so your help is needed. Up to 23 teams can race in the Challenge, so there’s room for you and any excitement-loving friends you’d like to enlist. Of course, teenagers and karting are a natural mix, so grab them and get them into teams.
Can’t race? Donate!
Even if you can’t make the race or organize a team, you can help support this very important charity event by supporting one of the teams with a donation. The goal is to raise $125,000 this year, bringing the total raised by the Pacific NW Karting Challenge over the years above $750,000.
